For a best-selling cosmetic product, consumers often develop a strong liking for it at first glance. Many brand owners, when building their own brands, have little knowledge about cosmetic packaging materials. How to capture customers' attention with the first impression undoubtedly involves selecting the right packaging material and achieving a perfect design. Today, I will share some relevant knowledge about cosmetic internal packaging materials.
Cosmetic internal packaging materials can be broadly categorized into three types based on material: 1. Glass, 2. Tubes, 3. Plastic. Today, let's delve into the details of packaging materials made of glass.
Glass Bottles (Cream Bottles, Essence Bottles, Toner Bottles, Essential Oil Bottles)
Glass bottles used in cosmetics are mainly divided into several categories: skincare products (cream, lotion), perfumes, essential oils, and nail polish. They typically have small capacities, with sizes larger than 200ml rarely used for cosmetics. Glass bottles can be further categorized into wide-mouth bottles and narrow-mouth bottles. Wide-mouth bottles are usually used for solid or cream-like substances, suitable for pairing with aluminum or plastic caps. The caps can also be enhanced with effects like color spraying. On the other hand, narrow-mouth bottles are commonly used for emulsions or aqueous solutions, often paired with pump heads. If caps are used, they should be equipped with inner plugs. For thicker emulsions, larger inner plugs are recommended.
Uneven thickness of glass bottles may lead to damage or breakage, especially in severe cold conditions. It is essential to test the reasonable capacity during filling. During transportation, bottles should be individually separated and cushioned with paper. Packaging should include colored boxes, inner trays, and outer boxes to provide vibration resistance.
Common shapes for glass bottles include stock shapes such as those used for essential oils, regular transparent or frosted bottles. The production cycle for glass bottles is relatively long, ranging from 20 to 45 days, depending on the complexity. The lead time and minimum order quantity may be influenced by peak and off-peak seasons. Essential oil bottles often use amber or colored glass to prevent light exposure, with caps equipped with safety rings and the option of inner plugs or droppers. Perfume bottles typically come with delicate spray pumps or plastic caps.
Combination forms:
Cream bottle series: Glass bottle body + double-layer plastic outer cap (typically in capacities of 10g-50g).
Essence bottle series: Glass bottle body + plastic pump head or aluminum pump head (capacities range from 20ml to 100ml).
Toner bottle series: Glass bottle body + plastic inner plug + outer cap (100ml and above, can also be equipped with a pump head).
Essential oil bottle series: Glass bottle body + inner plug + large-cap or dropper + dropper + aluminum cap.
Production processes:
Bottle body: Transparent bottle, frosted colored bottle, white porcelain bottle, essential oil bottle, spray painting.
Spray painting is an additional charge, depending on the area and difficulty of color adjustment. Screen printing is relatively simple in single color, and cylindrical bottles can be calculated as a single color. Irregular bottles are calculated as two or more colors.
Printing: Screen printing, hot stamping (screen printing and hot stamping combined should not exceed two times to avoid defects and higher costs).
Screen printing: Glass bottle screen printing usually has two types. One is high-temperature ink screen printing, characterized by color fastness and a dull appearance. Purple tones are challenging to achieve. The other is low-temperature ink screen printing, offering vibrant colors but requiring high-quality ink to prevent fading. Attention should be paid to bottle sterilization.
